Short-term effects of increasing compost application rates on soil C and greenhouse gas (N2O and CO2) emissions in a California central coast vineyard

Compost application is commonly considered by winegrape producers to improve soil health while sequestering carbon (C) and mitigating climate change. However, inputs of available C nitrogen (N) as nutrients can induce emissions greenhouse gases (GHG) such dioxide (CO 2 ) nitrous oxide (N O). A 2-year field experiment in a Mediterranean vineyard on the California Central Coast was conducted investigate short-term effects compost at four different rates dynamics gas emissions.
